Here’s a thought.
If you’re a lesser known or an upstart amateur voice actor in any fandom and you’re spending more time whining about the fandom-famous folk allegedly stealing your ideas so that your version of something that’s either a) been done before or b) will be done many times after, isn’t as well-known as theirs, or complaining about how other people are “ripping off” projects that you’re not even a part of, rather than improving your own skills at acting, editing, or whatever, that’s a good way of indicating that you’re really too immature, too petty, and too lazy to work to deserve even a slice of the recognition you think you’re entitled to at the moment.
I remember back when I dubbed that one comic with Sollux on sopor slime, 2 or 3 months before Octypomp did. I had about 250 followers at the time, a total unknown. Then the aforementioned ‘Pomp released his dub of the comic. I started to get comments saying “I preferred Octo’s version!” and “Not as good as MasterYorgi!” I even got anon hate a few times. So you know what I said?
Nothing.
You know what I did?
Improved.
I recognised that bitching and moaning about Captain Popular wasn’t going to do anything but aggravate people. And while I wasn’t the happiest about it, I just accepted that this was going to happen with people who are more popular than me. I didn’t own the comic I dubbed, after all, so I can’t claim I was entitled to it.
Instead, I decided to change things up. Practise my editing. I got more adventurous with my audio effects, transition, soundtracks, visuals, the works. Studied acting methods, voice warm-ups, learned some accents, all that jazz. Closely examined the characters I was voicing and all. I knew that if I didn’t want to be compared to the fandom-famous people, I had to work for it.
And yeah, look at me now. Still not very popular. But hey, these things take time. I’ve gotten more integrated with the Homestuck VA crowd, am on friendly terms with some of the people I always considered to be way out of my league, and I think anyone’d say that I’ve improved since. And yeah, this fabulous ~~*inspirational story*~~ has gone on too long so I’ll wrap it up before I forget my point:
If you want to get recognition for the things you do, then that’s perfectly understandable. However, the way to go about this isn’t whining because the popular guy’s overshadowing you. The way to get recognised is to keep on working at it until you start to turn heads.
Those whacky kids are back with a more reasonably paced four hour livestream. Everyone else is a little quiet until I turn them up a few minutes in. Today joining us is:

In a nutshell, The Red Queen of Oz: Two Fates is an RPG/point-and-click adventure hybrid in which Dorthy and Alice team up and travel through locations in both Wonderland and Oz to stop the titular Red Queen from destroying both worlds!
