1. When I heard that some classes counted for two different requirements, I thought “GREAT! Less classes for me to take.” Not realizing that I’d still have to take the same number of classes overall just to meet the minimum credit requirement. No big deal though. Just keep taking classes.

2. I took a BUNCH of English classes, but there’s actually a LIMIT to how many classes of a single subject you can take and still get credits for. Even if it’s your MAJOR. NO ONE Told me this and how they fuck am I supposed to ASSUME a rule THAT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE??? I’m PAYING YOU to give me AN ENGLISH DEGREE I want to TAKE FUCKING ENGLISH CLASSES I filled ALL THE ELECTIVE CREDITS so FUCK YOUR HORSE SHIT!

3. I didn’t figure out 2. until I had taken an extra summer semester class that didn’t count for anything and signed up for mostly English classes for my final semester.

4. When I DID find out it was 2 weeks into the semester, so I had to TOTALLY change my entire schedule and take a whole semester of NON-English classes, and join the classes late and hope that they were all easy enough because I also needed to take SIX classes to graduate on-time instead of the usual five.

5. I’m failing one of the classes. If I don’t get an A on the final? I don’t graduate. By like three fucking points.

So yeah. It was all leading up to this moment.

So now I don’t know. My ticket for Wales has been bought for months and I’m fucking going, so I guess I have to take an online course? Or more if they’re not worth three credits each. AS LONG AS THEY’RE NOT ENGLISH CLASSES. HAHAHA FUCK YOU.

Now I have to go to the fucking ceremony on Friday and I have to tell my fucking family I’m not graduating yet and they’ll probably still throw me a party because it’s just one class I have to take over the summer, a technicality, but I still feel like a fucking fuck-up and a failure.

I don’t even know HOW I’m failing that class. The only grades are three exams, one being the final this Tuesday, and SOMEHOW I fucking FAILED the first two exams. THEY DIDN’T EVEN SEEM THAT HARD WHILE I WAS TAKING THEM???? I STUDIED! I LIKE THE CLASS! I ENJOY THE MATERIAL! I’M JUST SO CONFUSED!!!

I’m really tired and upset. I’m going to bed.

I hate everything right now.

I honestly won’t care TOO badly if Yahoo! buys and ruins Tumblr, because it’ll problably take a few years and people will have found a replacement by then.

Social media is a constantly evolving thing. I’ve un-regretfully left SO many websites for dead and never looked back I’m pretty jaded at this point.

It’s the natural evolution of popular websites. They start out small and simple, but their user-base gets too big and they need more money to sustain themselves, so they go corporate and get bogged down with useless confusing features and changes no one asked for and people abandon it for the next new fresh small website.

So while I don’t think Tumblr will IMMEDIATELY become too terrible to stay on it and it’ll take a few years of repeatedly slow small changes, I will cautiously keep my eye out for the next big thing and jump on that IF I start seeing things turn wrong.

All I know is it won’t be Google+. Holy shit I’m never joining that, mainly because Google keeps trying to force me to.

A few weeks back, I had a customer come in, a fairly typical, sheltered, suburban soccer mom, and she ordered a latte from me. She saw my brightly colored nails and said, “Wow, you’re so brave! My son asked me about painting his nails, and if it’s okay for boys to do that. Now I’ll tell him there’s a cool guy who does it too!” It was a nice moment, very cute.

Then, last week, she came in again, and said, “Hey, I’m so glad you’re here! I want you to meet someone!” She then brings her son forward, and says, “Okay sweetie, show him what you did!” And he throws his hands up, showing off his bright, sparkling blue nails. He shows them off, and I show mine off to him. He smiles. We fist bump.

Guys, I’ve only wanted to cry once at work before, and that was when someone ordered a large dry soy cappuccino on ice.

This time, though. This was a good cry.

Large chain pet supply store Robin here. Every now and then we’ll get customers that will ask if we sell a specific breed of dog, so I give them the spiel that we don’t sell dogs- we give out space in our stores to local shelters and rescues so they can show certain dogs that are up for adoption, which is something I’m really proud of. A couple breed-specific rescues come in once a month with their dogs to educate the public about the breed and the rescue! I figure that if that customer was coming in to a store with the intention of buying a puppy, they’re unknowingly going to seriously consider buying a puppy from a pet shop that gets its puppies from puppymills. And the thought of puppymills turns me in to a giant squid of anger (the teacup puppy breeding industry, too). You might want to stop reading here if you don’t want the details.

The conditions they grow up in are horrendous. Hundreds of females and male dogs are bred (likely inbred) in terrible conditions until they’re no longer useful (then abandoned, left to die, or killed), puppies are raised in filth and are riddled with diseases, and can have a lot of problems later on in life because they’re not treated and not socialized during the crucial early months. Brokers buy puppies for cheap, ship them to pet shops (if it’s a long distance, many don’t survive the journey), who then jack up the price to thousands more than they got them for. It’s all for the sake of money because they don’t care for the dogs’ well-being or happiness at all. A real breeder isn’t going to have a ‘Your dog got sick? Too bad, so sad- here, take another diseased puppy!’ policy like so many pet shops do- they guarantee health with the records to show it. And a true breeder isn’t going to slap on an ‘AKC certification’ and call it a day, because that just means the person paid a fee saying that the parents were of the same breed (seriously, that’s it!) They interview a potential owner in order to make sure their puppy is going to the best forever home it can. And if it doesn’t work out, many encourage families to bring the dog back to the breeder. A real breeder is going to pour their heart, soul, and wallet in to bettering the breed and making the best, most well-rounded dogs they can. They’re not going to send them away, never to be seen again, to crawl over each other on a grated floor in a tiny box to contract each others’ diseases; to live their first crucial months without proper exercise, nutrition, love, socialization, or attention. And what’s really bogus is now so many shops are listing the names and locations of the ‘breeders’ they get their puppies from, betting on people thinking that means they’re from reputable breeders. It’s complete BS, but they know people fall for it! If you try to get in contact and visit the so-called ‘breeder’, you either wont get straight answers or even get any answers at all.

I try my hardest not to explode with anger when I try to educate customers about the dangers of buying puppies from pet shops. I think I’m pretty good at masking my internal rage, haha. My own dog was abandoned and though she was in pretty bad condition when we got to her, it couldn’t compare to puppymill conditions. It still breaks my heart and makes me so mad that anyone could intentionally leave her to fry outside in the summer heat, but it makes me even more angry that people can do so much worse with puppymills. Of course I’m not mad at the customer and am never angry with them- I’m just mad at the cruelty people are capable of for the sake of money. Luckily we’re all given pages with websites of local shelters, rescues, and other resources to share with customers to help point them in a better direction.

Not sure if this qualifies under ‘trigger’, but I’ll tag it anyway.

I kind of have a tendency to assume everyone knows this, but in case any of my followers don’t, please check thoroughly to make sure you’re getting your dog from a reputable breeder! Or better yet, adopt. There’s this myth that dogs only get abandoned because they’re difficult or mean or sick, and it’s just not true. If you’re absolutely set on a certain breed, check for a breed specific rescue in your area before going to a breeder. Not that there’s anything wrong with wanting a purebred (both our dogs have been purebreds and rescues) but don’t discount a potential best friend because of it!

Because in 15 years of investigating rape accusations, I can count those that panned out as false on one hand. Meanwhile, the one time I almost skipped the protocol, the one time I almost didn’t believe a petty officer, because I was naive as an investigator and a young woman, because her commanding officer described her as “a party girl, always late, always out drinking, don’t bother with this one”, she turned out to be the victim of one of the most brutal assaults I’ve ever investigated. She shouldn’t have still been -alive-, let alone up and making the accusation. So let me repeat: five false accounts in fifteen years. And one time I almost failed a woman ‘cause of the bullshit way it’s normal to talk about us. Take your shipmates’ word, and then run the protocol. Every. Single. Time.”
