Also, if anyone could make this premise work, it’s Hussie. After 2 months of weekly strips, the characters pull some absurd bullshit and get sucked into the game or something, suddenly we’re actually reading a unique story.
There’s already a webcomic that made the premise work, to be fair, and it’s name is Fanboys. It really does nothing fundamentally different in-terms of the tired cliche gamer-comic premise, but I just think it’s the best one and therefore gets a pass.
You could also say Penny Arcade (though they don’t have a main female protag), but I think they improved by slowly morphing their comic from an original story to a weird quasi-autiobio gag-a-week comic where their characters have been turned into avatars for themselves. So they just left that sub-genre completely.

I like video games in-theory, but then when I sit down to play them and they’re too difficult I’m just like “What is my life, I’m pushing buttons and yelling at a screen there is nothing to gain from this” and I never play it again.
I’ve gotten to a lot of final bosses and just stopped because “What’s the point, there’s nothing but the credits after this, I played the whole game pretty much whatever.”
I’m a terrible gamer I have no idea where this horrendously literal mindset on video games came from, but it’s kept me from a lot of potential fun over the years, let me tell you.
sometimes I’m the same way (
Wild ARMS the first five times I tried to play it) but then other times I get so mad at the game that I have to finish it. as a final “Fuck You I’m better than you!!” like I could sometimes wound this inanimate object with my finishing in anger. then I never touch the game again.
I think I have a similar but opposite mindset?
Once I get to that anger point I feel like if I KEEP playing then the game wins.
Because it’s a game. Its sole purpose is to be played. I’m doing exactly what it WANTS me to do.
